Pharmacy and eating habits (lame!)

For the last several months, I've been going to the gym and trying to watch my food intake. Bringing my lunch to work instead of eating convenience foods and fast food was the biggest problem I had. Still, we always have some sort of terrible snack food in the pharmacy... this week I have surely eaten my body weight in Cheetos, Starburst, and dark chocolate. They live in a drawer that is way too easily accessed - whose idea was it to have a junk food drawer?! Do you guys deal with this too, or do you just have much better willpower than I do?

Working in veterinary hosp we had clients drop goodies off ALL THE TIME. holy geez. cupcakes from a GREAT Los Angeles bakery. Freaking Cream puffs the size of your fist.
Every new hire was warned they would gain 10 pounds in first month.
We even had a snack day where work paid someone to bring in a snack for breakfast/lunch.
I ALWAYS got fruit/veg tray from store. I was not liked ;)

I have never worked in a pharmacy that did not have a junk food drawer:)

I got into a real bad habit of doing that same thing for a while. Instead of drinking my water bottle during the day, I started suckin' down Mtn Dew.

Couple months ago I became sick of it, cut all of that crap out, started going to the gym again and dropped 35 pounds.

Really I just mentally started telling myself no. I started drinking Diet Dew which has helped in that I find a lot of things with real sugar and stuff in it to be vastly too sweet. My thing is more portion control, maybe allow myself one bag of chips a week or something like that.

My corporate department has its own candy bowl. During various months it is filled with seasonal candy: candy corn for Halloween, mints for Christmas, jelly beans for easter. I only eat the fat free candy like jelly beans.

p.s. While doing the P90 program (little brother to P90X) I lost 25 pounds, and my sister lost 10 pants sizes! If you want to start an exercise program at home, start with P90. Then go onto P90X, then P90X+.

It is the curse of working in any medical office. Patients bring you cookies, cupcakes, etc. and fellow employees always have candy or something awesome. The overnight staff at my store like to "potluck snack" at night so we will all get something different like bringing cake or buying chips & dip, Swedish Fish, Gummy Savers, etc. I think I need to have my mouth wired shut for a few months...and with that I am going to Taco Bell for lunch...

Ha, you have a drawer...we have a 3 shelf cabinet!

I have one tech that eats her weight in junk food every day. She is of course young and has a high metabolism so she stays very skinny. I give it about 5 years and it will catch up with her and she will weight about 300 lbs.

I try to stay away from it as much as possible, but I give in once a day for 1 thing, but only 1, well may be 2 or 3 or a bag :)

Well at least it's universal! I have actually been doing the whole watching what i eat and going to the gym for several months now, but I'm totally sabotaging myself with that damn drawer.

Oh well, the body needs increased calories to gain muscle, right?

When I worked retail we had a "chocolate box" (plastic tub full of treats) in a corner. When we'd had it up to eyes with someone we'd run and hide and cry with the beloved chocolate box until we felt it was safe to come out! No that I'm a long-term care phar, acy we have an entire breakroom with a fridge full of crap, complete with someone bringing doughnuts every morning, birthday cakes once a month, and usually a monthly "finger food friday"!
